hey man, nice tat

Tattoos. The notion of placing permanent ink under one's skin via needle brings up very polar reactions in people. Half are disgusted, half are in awe. Half think they're really neat on other people but wouldn't dream of getting one themselves (three halves- work with me here). Really, it all comes down to what the tat is, where it is, and how large it is. How far is too far? What is socially acceptable nowadays? I'd like to explore different tattoos and get your opinions.

This kind of tattoo has been around for a while, though not many people today have braille tattoos. The skin is actually lifted due to something placed under it. In the image, the method is used as braille, however that was not the original purpose. Some African tribes would use this technique to convey one's religious beliefs. The old way was to place little bits of gunpowder under the skin, but now scientists have come up with more sterile irritants.

I don't know if the tongue is real, but it would be awesome if it was. I wonder if things taste funny..?

People are finding new weird places to put tattoos. Because in short a tattoo is a form of self-expression, the more unique the better. Of course, there is a fine line between unique and downright odd...

Because everyone idolizes their celebrities, once the famous started donning tats they became more socially acceptable in some circles. Here are some cool ones:

I guess people's opinions on tattoos all come down to the tattoo. (Don't worry, I doubt the baby's is real.)

What are your feelings on tattoos?

Emma Watson & the Half-Blood Prince

I am what some may call a Harry Potter freak. I prefer Harry Potter educated. I have pre-ordered nearly every book months in advance, gone to Harry Potter themed parties, read each book a minimum of four times, attended almost all of the movie premiers at midnight, and tried charming my light switch in the mornings when I don't want to get out of bed to turn it on. I cried when Serious Black died and then again for Dumbledore. My most recent plight of fandome has been dying my hair red to go to the Half-Blood Prince premier the other night as Ginny Weasley. If I haven't lost you as a reader yet thank God. Anyway, over the years of the movies I have become more and more fond of the heroine Hermione Granger (Emma Watson). She is perhaps one of the most talented actresses in the films (actually I think all the actresses are talented) AND she knows how to dress. Double whammy. In the Half-Blood Prince movie, she is what made the show. Every girl could relate to what Hermione was going through and she provided an interesting relief to the stress all the audience members were subject to before the end credits.

When Emma was first "discovered" in 2001, she was an awkward (but adorable) brunette cast to portray an overly eager witch with frizzy brown hair and awkward teeth. She was brilliant- and not only in character.

Now Emma, along with the rest of the young cast, is a stunning young adult. She is heading off to University this fall with not only the Harry Potter movies under her belt, but a modeling gig as well.

In short, Emma Watson is the woman every girl wishes to be. Featured in magazines such as Teen Vogue multiple times, Emma has gotten her quirky personality out in more ways than one. A few of my favorite Emma quotes are:

"I get sent Bibles. I have a collection of about 20 in my room. People think I need to be guided."

"[On kissing her co-stars]: Oh my God, no, no chance, no chance. That's not in my contract!"

"I love fashion. I think it's so important, because it's how you show yourself to the world."

What is not to love about Emma Watson?

the beginning

Hi all, welcome to my blog. I am new to blogging, although I have been an avid blog reader for years. I used to be the girl who would make fun of blogging with friends, saying "who the hell would care so much?" (Funny how the same could be said for twitter!) Then I would go home and get my daily fill on all the random blogs I subscribed to. Recently my favorite blog, IAmFashion, shut down leaving me in an extreme slump. My world was turned upside down, much like when the seventh book of Harry Potter came out and was devoured, or when Michael Jackson expired recently due to what his family refuses to believe is probably drugs. Anyway, I decided to start my own to fill the void.

About three months ago I created a blog... and didn't know what to write about. The impulsive effort was soon forgotten about, and the domain was put on the same shelf as my summer YouTube blog with my friend Kasey and my chocolate milk small business. Recently I have dusted that shelf, however, and although I simply polished everything else & put them back, I decided to give my blog a go; here it is. I still don't really know what to write about, so I have decided on a mix of fashion, celebrities, global issues, my issues, and stream of consciousness. As readers of my baby blog, you will soon find that when I am not rambling or obsessing I am probably not making much sense and following no apparent thought flow.

A little about myself for the curious blog stalker (like me): I am a senior in high school at an arts magnet in Dallas, TX. I lead a normal and non-exciting life, save my extensive world traveling and my knack for getting into trouble. I have no idea what I want to do with my life and am told by many that I have plenty of time to decide and there is really no rush. THIS IS A LIE. I have five years most likely before I have to leave the safety net that school provides, and I must know what I am doing before that. Real life doesn't have a safety net, so I have to begin the rest of my life while there is still one snug under me. Here are my current career thoughts:
-architect
-magazine editor
-archaeologist
-anthropologist
-interior decorator
-trophy wife
-restaurant owner
-governor
-ambassador

As you can see, my ideas are pretty spread out. Help! What are your thoughts on my wonky career path?

Thanks for reading and I hope you come back. I wish to keep my blog off the shelf of no return, but if it gets a little dusty I may ask for help. What are some of the things you would like to read about? (What are some of the things I know enough about to write about?)

Cheers,
Em
